I recently attended a foundation in makeup artistry course with the Sussex Makeup Academy. This course was fantastic! Amy is very knowledgeable in all aspects of makeup artistry and shared lots of practical tips and business advice as well as covering all aspects of makeup application for day, evening, vintage and bridal looks. She even tailored the schedule to fit in with my home commitments. Couldn’t have asked for a more knowledgeable and supportive tutor. Would highly recommend this course. Thanks so much Amy!

I came over from Abu Dhabi to attend a 5 day intensive fashion and photographic course run by Amy at Sussex Make-up Academy.

Amy teaches in an excitable yet relaxed manner and really wants to share all of her skills and knowledge from working in the industry with you. I learnt so much in just 5 days which I consider fantastic value for money.  Once Amy had taught me the basics, we then concentrated on bridal and fashion and photographic with Amy stretching my skills and consistently pushing me to achieve the best looks that she felt I could.

On completion of my course, I  went back to Abu Dhabi and started a very successful career carrying out make overs for special events, weddings and photographic.

I loved this training course so much and can’t wait to sign up on my next course at the Sussex Make-up Academy.

I attended a 3 day intensive make up course at Sussex Make up Academy.

I found the course very full on and I loved that about it as I learnt so much in three days. My tutor was very good at teaching and she explained everything well and made sure I knew each technique before we moved on to the next.

I would recommend this course to anyone that has not done professional make up before – it’s a great starter course.

I recently had the opportunity of being an Instructor at the Sussex Makeup Academy.

Not only was Amy extremely professional and helpful in the run up to the workshop, but also a fantastic host on the day. She ensured everyone was happy, warm, well hydrated and also fed 🙂
The studio itself had everything we needed, it was super clean and had great lighting.

Those that attended were full of energy and enthusiasm which made the entire experience extremely enjoyable.

It is definitely a great place to teach as a guest artist but also to attend, so defo stay tuned for future workshops.

I would highly recommend.

I attended the foundation in make-up and hair followed by an advanced make-up course covering bridal and fashion & photographic make up. The course was fun, interesting and being taught by working make-up artists, meant it was also very informative.  They know how to mix the right amount of knowledge from their own years in the industry as well as encouraging your own creativity.

After attending the initial course I couldn’t wait to sign up for the advance class to further my skills and build on the techniques I had learned, from applying a base to looking at face shapes, from recreating 1920’s looks to shading. Since I attended these courses, I now work as a professional make-up artist and along with my hairdressing and beauty qualifications I am running my own hair and beauty business. Without Sussex Make-up Academy’s knowledge, support and guidance this would not have been possible!

2013 / 2014

I have been following Amy’s amazing images on Facebook for many years when I happened to see that Sussex Make-up Academy were running a basic 1 day course and seized the moment to meet and be educated by someone I had come to admire on the web.

This was genuinely one of the best opportunities I embraced because I didn’t just need an understanding of contouring , application of eyelashes etc, I mostly needed confidence, something I had really lacked. It was this element that Sussex Make-up Academy gave me, through their down to earth, easygoing, encouraging approach to educating that enriched me as a person and consequently my career.  In an industry, which to be honest can be cut throat, full of ego and a quick-sandpit, finding Sussex Make-up Academy is an essential to anyone’s path in the industry.

I highly recommend Sussex Make-up Academy. 110% !

Sussex Make-up Academy gave me first hand experience on how to freelance as a make-up and hair artist. The tutors have a wealth of knowledge and are exceptional teachers and have taught me many new skills in hair and make-up that could be utilised not only for catwalk but bridal and editorial as well.  I also learnt how to work at a faster pace, what is involved in being a professional make-up artist and how to work with both acrylic and real hair wigs.

I was extremely fortunate to shadow Amy for fashion photoshoots, weddings and wig making for theatre productions which finally resulted in me becoming a member of Amy’s team of make up artists for a catwalk show for an up and coming young designer.

2014 / 2015

We are a husband and wife photographic team who attended a 6 week course at the Sussex Make-up Academy.

We wanted to gain a better understanding of how make-up is applied professionally and how that effects what we see down the lens of the camera, well that plus I wanted to pick up lot’s of tips for myself 😉

We feel that it is really important to understand what is achievable by a make-up artist rather than having to rely on photoshop.  We also felt that if we had more knowledge of how make-up is applied, we can guide our make-up artists to provide that little bit extra with an understanding of what is required by them.

We learnt so much within our part time 6 week course, Amy was informative, fun and even ‘dragged up’ by hubby on the last night, much to my delight!

More than that, Amy has become a great friend and supports us in our careers as much as she can.
