These Masterclasses and Intensive Courses will be run by Laura Odette Phipps, a professional Make-up Artist specialising in Special Effects. You can check more of her work on her own website: https://lauraodettephipps.co.uk/

We have added seven different Special Effects Courses, some are open to beginners and others are aimed at professional Make-up Artists.

We also offer specialised courses for tutors at colleges to refresh their skills.  If you are interested in finding out more information about this please contact us direct.

Special Effects Make-up is often used for theatrical or cinematographic purposes, the goal is to change the appearance of the actor. These looks can be achieved with just make-up, or with prosthetics in order to produce a believable make-up transformation. Prosthetic Make-up is the process of sculpting, moulding and casting techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects.

Two of our SFX Courses are five day Intensive Courses that will teach you all you need to know on that specific subject to get to a professional standard. We are offering an “Introduction to Special Effects” Course and  “Life-casting, Producing a prosthetic, application and paint” Course. You will learn to create scratches, bruises, cuts, injuries, skin disease and more with make-up and prosthetics. If you take our prosthetics course, you will leave Sussex Make-up Academy with all the knowledge needed to cast, produce, apply and paint professionally make-up prosthetics.

Our Masterclasses are Short Courses centred on more specific skills and last one or two days, depending on the competence taught. Our five short workshops are Baldcap Application, Creating and Applying Flat Mould Prosthetics, Ageing for TV, film and Theatre, Trauma Make-up and Layering on Hair. All these abilities are really useful if you are planning on working in Theatre, Cinema, TV or if you want to specialise in Make-up and Halloween transformations.

I am interested in a day work shop for my daughter who is 12, she is very keen to do special effects make up when she leaves school and has been trying to find a workshop taster that she can learn and maybe do a extra curriculum.

I am in Horsham but willing to travel.

Hi Tanya, Please email us at sussexmakeupacademy@gmail.com – We are currently looking at dates to run a one day SFX course. We are in Ringmer so not far from Horsham at all.
